World Mountain Forum 2018: A Global Platform to Promote Sustainable Mountain Development

The World Mountain Forum is a biennial event that brings together stakeholders to discuss issues around Sustainable Mountain Development (SMD) and how it can be integrated in the global development agenda. This year’s edition will be hosted by the University of Central Asia's Mountain Societies Research Institute at Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, on October 23-26, 2018. The World Mountain Forum 2018 will be held under the theme “Mountains in a Changing World” follows the one that was hosted by Uganda and ARCOS in 2016 at Mbale where more than 160 people from different sectors joined together to discuss how best to solve the various issues affecting full implementation of SMD agenda. The resolutions from this conference, the “Mbale Call for Upscaling Action” has since guided the implementation of the programme “Sustainable Mountain Development for Global Change (SMD4GC)”, a programme supported by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). The World Mountain Forum 2018 will continue this tradition of offering the global SMD community a platform to identify and develop solutions for mountain areas globally, but with a special emphasis this year on the mountains of Kyrgyzstan and Central Asia given the event will be hosted by the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic. Please register or follow the discussions at the conference website here
